On July 7, the Presidential Library hosted one of the most famous performers of the XX century, legendary pianist Marina Mdivani. The meeting with a pianist was followed by a performance of Mendelssohn's "Fantasy" by the eighth –grader, Tatuli Mchedlidze.
Marina Mdivani was born in 1936 in Tbilisi, in the family of a well-known chess player Victor Goglidze. After graduating from school with honors, she entered the Moscow State Conservatory and continued her studies with Professor Jacob Milstein and from 1958 her teacher became Emil Gilels.
In 1961, Marina Mdivani became a winner of Marguerite Long and Jacques Thibaut Paris International competition. The following year she won one of the most difficult and prestigious Tchaikovsky competition.
In 1963, Marina Mdivani went on an eight-week tour of the United States and Canada. The culmination of the tour was the concert held at Carnegie Hall.
Since 1992 Marina Goglidze-Mdivani has worked as a successful professor in Montreal at McGill University. Many of her students are winners of major international competitions.
